On Monday night, Pakistan cricket team took their flight for England where they will play a series consisting of 5 One Day Internationals before the World Cup.
On 18th of April, Chief Selector Inzamam ul Haq announced the15 men squad that will represent Pakistan in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 after the fitness camp session ended in Lahore. Sarfaraz Ahmed was announced Captain for the World Cup and Shoaib Malik as his deputy. Pakistan Cricket Board has provided a provisional squad for World Cup which may see changes depending upon the performance of the squad members in the England series.
The squad announced consisted Fakhar Zaman, Imam ul Haq and the newbie Abid Ali for the opening slots. The obvious Babar Azam, Mohammed Hafeez and Shoaib Malik were included whereas Harris Sohail also grabbed a well-deserved inclusion after a successful ODI series.
Superstar Shadab Khan and Imad Wasim were handed the ticket for the World Cup to strengthen the spin department of Pakistan Team alongside all-rounder Faheem Ashraf who have been consistently performing for the National Team.
The Bowling pack comprises of Hasan Ali, Shaheen Shah Afridi and Junaid Khan. Youngster Mohammad Hasnain was also handed the chance to showcase his talent on the big stage.
Interestingly, Muhammad Amir and Asif Ali were left out of the World Cup squad, but will have the privilege to travel with the team as they are included in the ODI series against England. PCB has rather played smartly on this, as they have not included Amir and Asif Ali in the squad list for the World Cup but have also not completely ruled out the possibility of these two players making to the World Cup team at the eleventh hour.
Coach Micky Arthur and Captain Sarafarz took the mic before leaving for England in a media talk. Coach Arthur hailed his side stating that this Pakistan team has got the talent and attitude to become World Champions. We now need to focus on our strengths and execute our skills in order to gain success. On England series, he said that it will be a brilliant opportunity to test our temperament, combinations and will allow us to become acquainted with the English conditions prior to the World Cup. The head coach also put his confidence in Muhammad Amir calling him a big player match and added that Amir’s and Asif Ali’s addition will depend upon their accomplishments against England in the ODI series.
Sarfaraz Ahmed added that the team has prepared very hard for the World Cup and will strive hard to reach the podium as winners. He also emphasized on the senior members of the squad calling Hafeez and Malik as the back bone of the batting lineup. When asked whether tag of favorites for World Cup fancy him, he responded with a smile that underdog tag seems better to him.
